Even if you didn't see the Golden Globes on Sunday, you likely heard about or subsequently watched Oprah's speech after receiving the Cecil B. de Mille Award (link to view in social media gems below). Her message was so powerful and exquisitely delivered - one for the books. In it, she commanded that "Time's Up" in reference to the #MeToo campaign regarding sexual harassment and abuse - the change is here and the time is up for perpetrators. Everyone wore black in solidarity that night ensuring that this message was unified and heard.
On that note, we agree with Oprah and say "Time's up"! in medicine as well. Time's up for gender inequality, sexual harassment, power differentials, stigmatization, physician burnout, the hidden curriculum in medical education, the income inequality among specialties, assembly line medicine and any other unacceptable approach toward healthcare, particularly as it pertains to the well-being of healthcare providers.
In the words of Mahatma Gandhi - “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
